A dozen EV models exhibited in Geneva

Electric cars (okay, and hybrids) are definitely the stars at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show in Switzerland. Here's a list of the models unveiled or exhibited this week:

Ford Focus electric
The 2012 Focus family comes with an electric version with the capability to fully charge in three to four hours total.

Chevrolet Volt
The American Car of the Year 2011, a hybrid already available for order in the US, is still one of the stars in Geneva. Its European cousin, the Opel Ampera, will soon roll out to the Old Continent's streets.

BMW Active E
This German sports car can accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 90 mph.

Volvo V60
A highly efficient plug-in electric hybrid and the first station-wagon electric vehicle.

Toyota iQ EV
The electric version of the popular Japanese microcar.

Tesla Model S
The troubled's Californian start-up's super car.

Honda Fit EV
Honda's first all-electric vehicle.

Smart fortwo concept car
Modeled after the company's popular non-electric version.

Tata Pixel concept car
Tata claims that the Pixel will return more than 60 mpg and only releases 89 grams of C02 per kilometer. The efficiency comes by way of a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbodiesel, which, though it isn't a full hybrid, employs stop-start technology and regenerative battery charging.

Nissan ES Flow concept car
Nissan's first sport's concept car can go from 0-62 miles per hour in 5 seconds.

Nissan Leaf
One of the first EVs on the market, the vehicle can go up to 90 miles per hour, can get 80% charge in a half an hour, and its batteries feature a 100,000 mile warrantee.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Experimental Car
Lotus and Rolls-Royce teamed up to produce this luxury EV, which possesses the largest battery ever used in an electric passenger car, for 'market study purposes'.

Preços dos veículos eléctricos em Portugal

Existem presentemente sete modelos de automóveis eléctricos em comercialização ou em pré-reserva em Portugal que, segundo o Estado, cumprem todos os requisitos para serem abrangidos pelo programa de benefícios fiscais (que concede descontos até 6.500 euros).

São estes, e de acordo com a Portaria 468/2010 de 7 de Julho:

Os preços

Uma vez que alguns destes veículos ainda só foram vendidos a clientes empresariais, nem todos os modelos têm à data o seu preço final publicamente divulgado. Outras marcas indicam o valor claramente nos respectivos sites:

Os Smart eléctricos são comercializados em sistema de leasing a 4 anos (ou 60.000 km). Na Alemanha, a mensalidade situa-se nos 700 euros. Em Portugal, o valor não é divulgado pela marca, que contudo indica que rondará os números alemães (link Smart). Para já, a Smart conta a Câmara Municipal de Lisboa entre os seus clientes empresariais.

O Renault Fluence ZE é vendido em Portugal a 21.620 euros, indica a marca francesa (22.000 € + IVA a 21% - 5.000 € de incentivo do Estado). O aluguer mensal da bateria custa 79 euros. (link Renault)

O Mitsubishi i-Miev é comercializado no território português a 35.250 euros, IVA incluído (link Mitsubishi).

O Nissan Leaf custa 30.850 euros já com o incentivo de 5.000 euros. Este foi o primeiro veículo eléctrico de última geração a ser vendido a empresas portuguesas (e ao Governo), no final de 2010. A Nissan prevê entregar os primeiros Leaf a particulares ainda durante o primeiro trimestre de 2011, segundo o site da marca em Portugal.

Sem indicação clara por parte da marca, o preço do Citroën C-Zero é estimado em cerca de 36.000 euros, antes do desconto de 5.000 euros (site).

O Peugeot ION, cujas primeiras unidades já foram entregues em Portugal, é comercializado a 31.350 euros (site da marca).

O Mercedes Classe A E-CELL tem um preço indicado de 24.314 euros (link).

Comprar um veículo eléctrico em Portugal

Já é possível comprar um carro eléctrico em Portugal? Sim. Desde Dezembro de 2010, foram comercializadas várias dezenas de veículos eléctricos no nosso país, a maioria adquiridas por clientes empresariais. Os particulares também já podem reservar qualquer um dos sete modelos disponíveis no mercado luso e beneficiar de um benefício fiscal que pode chegar aos 6.500 euros.

A rede portuguesa de suporte aos veículos eléctricos também já está em marcha. Até ao Verão de 2011, o consórcio Mobi.e conta instalar 1.300 postos de abastecimento normal e 50 postos rápidos em todo o país.

Incentivos

O Governo português concede um benefício fiscal de 5.000 euros aos primeiros 5.000 novos proprietários de carros eléctricos. Caso o comprador entregue outro veículo para abate, o desconto pode subir até aos 6.500 euros. A medida, anunciada em 2010, mantém-se em 2011 apesar dos constrangimentos financeiros do país e está inscrita no Orçamento de Estado entretanto aprovado. Os veículos eléctricos estão ainda isentos do ISV (imposto sobre veículos) e do IUC (imposto único de circulação). Para as empresas, a compra de carros eléctricos é dedutível em sede de IRC (os híbridos não estão abrangidos pela medida). Informações e documentação legal disponível em Mobi.e

Postos de carregamento em Portugal

Nos próximos meses, e até ao Verão de 2011, está prevista a instalação de 1300 postos de carregamento normal e 50 rápidos de acesso público nas principais cidades portuguesas e nos percursos intermédios. Civic, Leaf named greenest cars of 2011

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has ranked the natural gas-burning Honda Civic GX as the greenest vehicle, for the second year. The battery-powered Nissan Leaf scored as high as the Civic GX on the green chart (click the image for full size), but the Honda took the first place on environmental items.

However, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is the greenest vehicle. According to the ACEEE, the Fortwo scored 60 (the Civic and the Leaf scored 54), but was not eligible for the greenest list due to low sales volume. Only 250 units of the 2011 Smart Fortwo EV will be available on a trial basis in the U.S., the ACEEE states.

The plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt ranked twelfth overall due to its comparatively poor fuel economy.

Smart to decide on electric scooter by the summer

From Automotive News Europe: DaimlerAG's Smart subsidiary, which is seeing its car sales decline, will decide by the summer whether to expand its lineup by launching an electric motorcycle and an electric scooter, the unit's boss, Annette Winkler, said.

"We want to reach a decision within the next six months. The question is whether the business case is positive," Winkler told Automotive News Europe on the sidelines of the Detroit auto show. Winkler said the business case currently is looking positive.

Smart is talking with potential production partners, but Winkler declined to disclose names of motorcycle makers with which Smart is negotiating. Smart unveiled concepts for the two-wheelers at the Paris auto show in October 2010.

This year, Smart forecasts sales of more than 90,000 units, compared with 97,500 in 2010 and about 134,000 in 2008. Its biggest markets were Germany, Italy, the UK, France and the United States. Last year, U.S. sales decreased to 5,930, compared with 24,000 in 2008, the year that the one-car brand launched sales in the country.

The successor to the current Smart ForTwo two-seat minicar will go on sale at the end of 2013 at the earliest. A four-seat Smart will follow in 2014 and will help boost sales.

Until then, Smart's only innovation will be a full-electric ForTwo, which will launch in 2012 with forecast sales of 10,000. Winkler said electric Smart sales could be combined with offers, such as the possibility to rent a larger car on a short-term basis.

Winkler also hopes to win new customers by selling individualized ForTwo models.

UK releases list of EVs eligible for grants

From the Green Car Congress: The first nine electric drive cars to become eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant of up to £5,000 (US$7,900, €5,896) in the UK are: Mitsubishi iMiEV; smart fortwo electric drive; Peugeot iON; Citroen CZero; Nissan Leaf; Tata Vista EV; Toyota Prius Plug-in; Vauxhall Ampera and Chevrolet Volt. More will follow next year.

The grant will be available to motorists across the UK from 1 January 2011, reducing the cost of eligible cars by a quarter, up to a maximum of £5,000.

The Government is also encouraging a new network of electric vehicle recharging points in streets, car parks and commercial retail and leisure facilities as driving electric cars becomes a part of everyday life for pioneering British drivers. The successful bidding consortia in this second phase are based in: the Midlands; Greater Manchester; East of England; Scotland and Northern Ireland.
